Standard Dosage
- 15mg/kg/day — equivalent to half a 30mg tablet per kg of body weight.
- Administer on an empty stomach (1 hour before or 2 hours after food).
- Once daily, preferably at the same time each day.
Increased Dosage (Under Veterinary Supervision Only)
- Cats with neurological or ocular FIP may require an increased dose of 30mg/kg/day (one full 30mg tablet per kg).
- Dose adjustments must be made by a veterinarian based on severity, body weight, and individual tolerance.
Important Notes
- Do not alter the dosage or frequency without veterinary guidance.
- Avoid missed, incorrect, or duplicate doses.
- Continue monitoring for at least 8 weeks after stopping treatment to detect any signs of relapse.
The treatment course should last no less than 84 days (12 weeks), with an additional 2 weeks of consolidation after symptom resolution.
Here are the key precautions regarding the recommended dosage of NeoFipronis® (Pronidesivir):
- Accurate dosing by weight: The standard dose is 15mg/kg once daily (i.e., half a 30mg tablet per kg of body weight). Higher doses (up to 30mg/kg) may be required for neurological or ocular FIP—only adjust under veterinary guidance.
- Administer once daily only: Do not split the dose or give more than once a day. Overdosing may lead to increased risk of side effects.
- Give on an empty stomach: Administer 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals to optimize absorption and bioavailability.
- Avoid missed or double doses: Skipping or doubling doses may reduce treatment efficacy or increase the risk of adverse effects.
- Never adjust the dose without vet advice: Even if symptoms improve or worsen, do not change the dosage on your own.
- Stick to a consistent schedule: Giving the medication at the same time each day helps maintain stable blood concentration for optimal results.
- Complete the full treatment course: Continue for at least 12 weeks even if symptoms resolve early to prevent relapse or resistance.
Administration
- Dosage: 15mg/kg once daily (½ tablet per kg); increase to 30mg/kg for neurological or ocular FIP under veterinary supervision.
- Timing: Administer once daily on an empty stomach (1 hour before or 2 hours after food).
- Consistency: Give at the same time each day to maintain stable blood levels.
Precautions
- Do not skip, double, or adjust doses without veterinary direction.
- Monitor your cat’s appetite, energy levels, and temperature throughout treatment.
- Regular blood tests (liver, kidney function) are recommended.
- Ensure proper nutrition, hydration, and a low-stress environment.
Complete the full course (≥84 days), then continue 2 weeks for consolidation, and observe for 8 weeks post-treatment to detect relapse.
Minimum Duration
- Minimum duration: 12 weeks (84 days)
- Continue treatment for 2 additional weeks after full symptom resolution
- Monitor for 8 weeks post-treatment to check for relapse
- In severe cases or slow recovery, treatment may be extended to 15–16 weeks
Complete the full treatment course—at least 12 weeks—with 2 extra weeks after symptoms resolve, and monitor closely for 8 weeks post-treatment to prevent relapse. Severe cases may need extended therapy.
Considerations
- Do not skip doses, change dosage, or stop treatment abruptly
- Monitor your cat’s appetite, energy, and temperature daily
- Routine bloodwork and liver/kidney function tests are recommended during treatment
- Ensure proper nutrition, hydration, and a low-stress environment throughout the recovery process
NeoFipronis® is a non-prescription veterinary medicine, and its use under veterinary supervision is strongly recommended.
